menuNAUSEA

REMEDIES
  1. 1 tsp of Ginger in ½ cup of cool water. Drink.
  2. Peppermint tea or extract (place dose in hot or cold water to make a tea).
  3. One drop of Peppermint oil in 1 cup of water and taken as a tea.
  4. Mix together 3 tbsp powdered Cinnamon, 1 tsp powdered Cardamom, 1 tsp powdered Nutmeg, 1 tsp powdered Cloves. Use ¼ tsp in one cup of boiling hot water; steep covered for 10 minutes; strain and drink 1 cup every 4 hours or as needed.

To CALM, SOOTHE, RELAX

  1. Steep 1 part each of Chamomile, Lavender, Linden, Lemon balm and ½ part orange peel for 7 minutes, using 1 tsp per cup. For extra stress relief add equal parts of Valerian tincture, Passion flower and California poppy.
  2. Combine equal parts of Hops, Lavender flowers, Balm leaves and Primrose. Steep 1 tsp in ½ cup boiling hot water and take ½ to 1 cup daily in mouthful doses as needed.
  3. Combine 1 part Chamomile, 1 part Lavender flowers, 1 part Peppermint leaves, 2 parts Valerian, 3 parts Fennel seed and 3 parts Yarrow. Steep 1 tsp in ½ cup boiling hot water and take ½ cup daily.
  4. Combine 3 parts Valerian, 3 parts Peppermint, 4 parts Buck bean. Steep 1 tsp in ½ cup boiling hot water and take ½ to 1 cup daily.
  5. Combine equal parts of Valerian, Hops, Lavender flowers, Lemon balm, Chamomile, Anise. Steep 1 tsp in ½ cup boiling hot water and take 1 cup daily.
  6. Combine 1¼ oz Chamomile, ¾ oz Catnip, 1 oz Sweet marjoram, ½ oz Mint. Use 1 cup boiling hot water to 2 tsp of the herbs and steep 5 to 10 minutes.
  7. Combine 1 part Valerian, 3 parts Hops, 2 parts Peppermint, 2 parts Hibiscus flowers. Soak herbs overnight in lukewarm water, then heat them up to drinking temp in the morning and then strain them off. Take ½ cup in mouthful doses throughout the day.
  8. Combine 8 tsp Skullcap, 10 tsp Valerian, 4 tsp Cypripedium, 2 tsp Rosemary, 3 tsp Lemon balm, 3 tsp celery seed. Mix well and divide into 20 portions. Add one portion to 3 cups boiling water; cover and boil slowly for about 2 to 3 minutes; let it stand for 10 minutes, then strain and take 1/3 in the morning, noon and at night either before or after meals.
  9. Combine 4 tsp Motherwort, 6 tsp Skullcap, 4 tsp Squaw vine, 4 tsp Cramp bark, 4 tsp Cassia bark, 8 tsp Valerian root. Mix well and divide into 20 portions. Add one dose to 3 cups boiling water; cover and simmer for about 2 to 3 minutes; let stand for 10 minutes, then strain and take 1/3 in the morning, noon and at night either before or after meals. (This combination is best for nervousness due to female complaints).
  10. Compound tincture of Lavender: ¼ oz oil of Lavender, ¼ oz oil of Rosemary, ½ oz Cinnamon powder, ¼ oz Nutmeg powder, 1 handful moderately fine red saunders powder, 1½ pints vodka (or other spirits), 2 cups water. Dissolve oils in alcohol. Add water. Mix the powders and moisten them with 1 oz of the alcohol/oil mixture. Pack moist powders into a conical percolater (such as a Chemix). Gradually pour the remainder of the alcohol/oil mixture over the moist powders and allow to filter through. Dose is 7 drops on ¼ lump of sugar. (See also: Cold Extraction process for method involved.
  11. Spirit of Lavender: Combine 1 part essential oil of Lavender with 49 parts brandy. Dose is ½ to 1 tsp in a tbsp of water or milk. Used for palpitation, nervousness, faintness, giddiness, spasms, colic and flatulence.
  12. Bath 1: Steep 2 oz Lemon balm in 1 quart boiling hot water for 15 minutes; add to bath water.
  13. Bath 2: Add 3 to 4 oz Valerian root to 1 quart cold water; let soak 10 to 12 hours; bring to boil and boil briefly; add to bath water.
  14. Bath 3: Add 2 to 3½ lbs of young twigs or young green cones from Spruce tress to 4 gallons of cold water; let stand 12 to 24 hours; boil in same water for 2 hours; add to bath water.
  15. For children's nervousness or hyperactivity: Combine 2 parts Chamomile, 2 parts Catnip, 2 parts Vervain, 1 part Hawthorn berries. Add 4 oz of herbs to a pint of brandy and extract for 2 weeks, shaking daily. Use 3 to 7 drops as needed.

ANXIETY
  1. Kava-kava is the first herb of choice for anxiety.
  2. Tea or tincture combining Hops, California poppy and Hawthorn.

DEPRESSON
  1. In bath or massage use essential oils of Lavender, Rose or Orange (you can also use the waters rather than the oils).
  2. Combine equal parts of St. Johnswort, Rosemary, Lavender, Wild oats. Steep 2 tsps in 1 cup water for 8 minutes and drink 3 times daily.
  3. Combine 2 parts St. Johnswort, 1 part Oats, 1 part Lavender, 1 part Mugwort. If making a tincture, use 1 tsp 3 times daily for a minimum of 1 month; if making infusions of the dried herbs, use 2 tsp per cup of boiling hot water and steep 8 minutes. Drink 3 times daily.

STRESS
  1. Combine 1 tbsp St. Johnswort, 1 tbsp Lemon balm, 2 tsp Speedwell, 1 tsp Cowslip flowers, ½ tsp Rose hips, ½ tsp Raspberry leaves. Use 1 tsp herbs to 1 cup boiling hot water steeped for 10 minutes.
  2. Combine 2 parts Skullcap, 2 parts Valerian, 1 part Oats. If making a tincture, use 1 tsp as needed. If making infusions, use 2 tsp per 1 cup of boiling hot water, steep 8 minutes and drink 3 times daily.
  3. If palpitations accompany stress, combine 2 parts Skullcap, 2 parts Valerian, 1 part Motherwort, 1 part Chamomile, 1 part Mugwort. If making a tincture use 1 tsp 3 times daily. If making infusions, use 2 tsp to 1 cup boiling hot water, steep 8 minutes and drink 3 times daily.

SEDATIVE
Sedative herbs are Valerian, Hops (never use when depression is present), Orange flowers, Passion flowers, Skullcap, Vervain.

STIMULANT

Combine 4 parts Prickly ash bark, 1 part Irish moss, 1 part Bayberry bark. Use 3 oz of the herbs per quart of distilled water and let stand for 2 hours with occasional stirring. Bring to boil for 30 minutes and strain while hot. Add 1 cup of black molasses and one cup of glycerin to the liquid. Boil slowly for 5 minutes, stirring constantly. When cool, bottle and cap tightly. Use 3 to 4 tbsp 3 or 4 times daily.

TONIC
For chronic nervousness or emotional instability
Combine 1 part Black cohosh, 1 part Hops, 1 part Lady's slipper, 1 part Skullcap, 1 part Lobelia, 1 part Valerian, 1 part Chamomile, 1 part Wood betony, 1 part Hawthorn berry, 1 part Ginger root. Use 4 oz of the herbs to 1 pint of vodka to make a tincture. Shake daily for 2 weeks, then strain and bottle. Use 2 tsp 3 times a day.

HYSTERIA, DRUG and ALCOHOL WITHDRAWAL, INSOMNIA
Combine equal portions of Lady's slipper and Skullcap. Simmer in a closed pan for 20 minutes, then strain and add honey to taste. Take ¼ cup every hour tapering off as symptoms subside.

NERVE PROBLEMS
(due to physical physical trauma, arthritis, metabolic disease, toxic agents, nutritional deficiencies)
Combine equal parts St. Johnswort, Skullcap, Siberian ginseng. If making a tincture take 1 tsp 3 times daily. If using dried herbs, use 2 tsp to 1 cup of boiling hot water and drink 3 times daily. If there is physical pain accompanying the condition, then Jamaican dogwood or Valerian can be added.
Externally: Oil of St. Johnswort can be used to ease nerve pain.

menuNEURITIS
This is an old remedy and contains some strong herbs that should be used with extreme caution. Best done under professional supervision.
Combine 6 tsp Buckthorn bark, 2 tsp Cassia bark, 8 tsp Black cohosh, 4 tsp Yellow dock, 2 tsp Poke root, 4 tsp Indian senna pods, 4 tsp Licorice. Divide into 20 doses. Add one dose to 2 cups boiling water, cover and simmer for about 2 to 3 minutes; let stand for 10 minutes then strain; taken ½ in the morning and at night, either before or after meals.



menuNIGHT SWEATS
There are a number of reasons for nightsweats. Menopause is one and diabetes is another. Always check with your doctor before assuming your symptoms are not serious.

Combine 12 tsp Sage leaves, 2 tsp Rosemary leaves, 4 tsp Bog bean leaves, 2 tsp Thoroughwort. Mix well and divide into 20 portions. Add one portion to 1 cup of boiling hot water and let steep 5 minutes. Strain; taken before retiring.
