BAKAU KURAP
(Rhizophora mucronata)

A tropical tree of mangrove swamps with typical prominent stilt roots growing out from the trunk in an effort to stabilize the plant in a swampy habitat. This is one of the more common mangrove trees of the tropics. Poles are used for pilings and construction of houses bordering the swamps. Wood is also valued for firewood and making of charcoal. Bark was once used to tan leather.

PART USED: Bark: has been used in the treatment of diarrhea.
